CITY SOLICITORS HORIZONS

Each year, up to 50 first-year university students, either studying law or a non-law degree but committed to pursuing a career in law, will be selected to participate in an outstanding three-year support programme alongside their undergraduate studies.

CITY SOLICITORS HORIZONS

Established in 2015, City Solicitors Horizons (CSH) was founded by the City Solicitors Educational Trust (CSET) and the City of London Solicitors’ Company (CLSC). CSH is a three-year support programme aimed at improving access to the legal profession for first-year undergraduates from low socioeconomic backgrounds.

Each year, up to 50 students with an interest in pursuing a career in corporate/commercial law are selected to join the programme. Chosen candidates are matched with a one-week work experience placement at a sponsor law firm and paired with at least one legal professional mentor.

Participants are also invited to attend the CSH Academy, designed to give students at the end of their first year a competitive edge. The Academy offers a dynamic mix of sessions, including talks, interactive workshops, application advice, and networking opportunities, all delivered by professional lawyers and support staff from top-tier UK and US international law firm sponsors.

In recognition of its impact, the CSH programme was highly commended at the 2021 Law Society Awards and won the ‘Supporting the Industry – 26+ Employees’ category at the 2022 Modern Law Awards.

TESTIMONIALS

Even throughout the pandemic, CSH was on a roll with constant, engaging and insightful events hosted by various law firms across the city as well as weekly negotiation training and mock interviews. Securing a training contract was an arduous process, but knowing I was supported throughout that journey by an amazing cohort of CSH candidates, team and schedule of events meant I was able to achieve my full potential. I am proud to be a CSH candidate: promoting an environment where everyone believes that their authentic selves will be valued within the legal industry has never been more important.

Yshana Docherty, CSH 2019-2022, Future Trainee Solicitor at Travers Smith
