Department Overview
The BAM Global Manager Finance team in London is comprised of 9 qualified Accountants, 1 part qualified Accountant, 4 Accounts Payable/Receivable and 2 Systems Accountants who are responsible for the Global Manager activities in UK/Europe. They support both the corporate operations and the wider business groups in London. Besides typical finance tam responsibilities of book keeping and internal reporting, ownership and good practice of financial controls, planning and forecasting, the team are responsible for external reporting and compliance, including regulatory filings, leading and directing finance lead improvement initiatives as well as ensuring the overall Brookfield Global Manager strategies are fulfilled.
Role Overview
To work within the existing European Finance team and be an integral part of ensuring the smooth running of Brookfield’s European head office shared service function.
Responsibilities mainly lie in the traditional preparation of financial records for two legal entities that hold the entire head office shared service function, the centralised payrolls and which perform the primary accounts payable function for the active asset management and asset owning platforms within Europe.
Key Responsibilities
Ensure accurate and timely month end reporting for two shared service companies, including:
Reconciliation and true up of bank accounts
Recognition and release of prepayments and accruals
Maintenance of fixed asset register, including posting of depreciation, additions and disposals
Review and posting of payroll journals, including liaison with the outsourced payroll provider to ensure the information received is correctly coded and allocated
Allocation and recharge of corporate costs to other entities within the Brookfield group.
Reconciliation of intercompany charges and agreement of balances
Oversight of the invoicing of fees to other Brookfield entities by the Accounts Receivable team
Liaison with department heads to understand results and compare to business plan
Maintain clean general ledgers, ensuring balance sheet accounts are reconciled fully and reconciling items are addressed and cleared on a timely basis
Assist in the review and update to the shared services allocations based on discussions with department heads on a quarterly basis
Preparation of monthly budget vs actual financial analysis to be presented to shared service department heads
Prepare quarterly cashflow statements as required for group reporting
Assist in the preparation of the annual shared services business plans and quarterly reforecasts for senior management and business group finance leads
Monitor Company cashflows, act as internal credit control, ensuring intercompany invoices are settled in a timely manner such that sufficient funding is in place to meet payroll and tax deadlines, and surplus funds are placed on deposit
Prepare monthly Company and Group VAT returns as required
Assist in the submission of other tax and statutory returns as required, such as PAYE Settlement Agreement return and Office for National Statistics returns
Annual statutory financial statements preparation. Where applicable audit file preparation and assistance with external auditors
Other ad hoc tasks as required, with a particular focus on improving processes and systems
Establish strong working relationships with Brookfield colleagues worldwide, particularly the London based asset managers and department heads
Key Competencies
Technical skills & competencies
An accounting qualification from a recognised accounting body, newly qualified to 1+ years PQE
Strong academic background, degree educated, minimum of 2:1 degree
Highly competent in the fundamentals of accounting
Self motivated with the ability to work independently
Effective oral and written communication
Meticulous and strong attention to detail
Deadline oriented, good time management and organisational skills
Proficient in Excel and the MS office applications suite
