Department overview:



The Prudential Planning and FRM team is responsible for delivering key liquidity and capital planning initiatives for Nomura European Holdings (NEHS, the European consolidation group), primarily driven by UK and European regulatory requirements. The team ensures NEHS is adequately capitalised at all times as well as identifying any threats to the viability of the firm and helps the management identify appropriate actions. The team is responsible for the development and coordination of the local ICAAP, ILAAP and Recovery Plan, including wind-down planning, performing resolvability assessments and coordinating initiatives to guarantee continuity in resolution. The team works closely with regional EMEA offices and the Financial Planning & Strategy team in Tokyo.


The team also supports and facilitates management of financial resources for the Wholesale business (Global Markets and Investment Banking Division). The team structure is lean and relatively flat, sitting within the Finance department in EMEA. 



The team spearheads the following:



  • Recovery Planning

  • Resolvability Assessment Framework (RAF)

  • Solvent Wind-Down (SWD) / Trading activity Wind-down (TWD) Planning

  • Internal Capital Adequacy Assessment Process (ICAAP)

  • Individual Liquidity Adequacy Assessment Process (ILAAP)

  • Contingency Funding Planning

  • Financial Resources Management (FRM) working together with the Group FRM

  • Ad-hoc strategic regulatory initiatives


These initiatives have been at the top of regulator’s agenda and therefore the Board’s agenda in recent years. In particular, the team has a focus to respond to the recovery & resolution planning related items, which have been at the centre piece of the latest regulatory developments from the PRA, Bank of England and other global regulators.




Key objectives critical to success:



The firm is looking to recruit an individual at Associate level to support execution of the Prudential Planning team’s core responsibilities including:



  • Delivery of key initiatives as listed above, in accordance with regulatory requirements

  • Support the production of the firm’s Recovery & Resolution initiatives, namely the integration of Solvent/Trading wind-down capabilities and development of playbooks for Resolution planning

  • Preparation of regular Board and Management Committee reporting, coordinating senior management sign-off

  • Comfortable with regular regulatory engagement, e.g. PRA / BoE and to be able to provide support in the development of plans to address and respond to regulatory information requests

  • Establishing a close relationship with internal stakeholders across both Corporate and Business functions in the UK and in Tokyo

  • Ongoing monitoring of regulatory developments, engaging with industry forums/peers and responding to public consultations

  • Ad hoc capital and liquidity analyses, providing cross-team support as required




Skills, experience, qualifications and knowledge required:



  • Prior experience in coordinating regulatory requirements in relation to recovery and/or resolution planning

  • In particular, experience of Resolution Planning, with involvement in initiatives to comply with the Bank of England’s Resolvability Assessment Framework (RAF) is highly appreciated

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with strong analytical capabilities

  • Ability to review and understand new and pending regulations, particularly around capital & liquidity planning, and to understand their impact to the firm

  • Experience in an international global markets & investment banking firm is desirable

  • A proven record of strong written and verbal communication skills with an ability to convey complex issues succinctly to senior management; Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel proficient

  • A strong risk and controls mind-set with the confidence to provide challenge

  • Strong organisation skills, coordinating deliverables and people to tight timelines

  • Ability to operate in an environment with a high level of scrutiny and collaborate effectively with a wide range of internal/external stakeholders

  • Ability to work independently with minimal oversight and as part of a team
