The Acquisition & Leveraged Finance (“ALF”) group sits within Nomura’s Client Financing and Solutions (CFS) business and straddles Investment Banking and Global Markets. In Europe, the team has executed over 23 European leveraged finance transactions in the last twelve months, raising over €34bn eq. financing for clients across loans and high yield bonds.
ALF is a single platform providing debt financing for private equity and corporate clients across the sub-investment grade credit ratings spectrum. Our clients can range from a listed corporate client undertaking an acquisition of another corporate or a financial sponsor client undertaking a leveraged buyout or take-private transaction.
Acquisition finance works typically with corporate clients advising them on event-driven transactions and acquisition-related debt financing (bridge loans, term loan facilities and bonds)
Leveraged finance provides debt financing for leveraged buyouts (LBOs), acquisitions and leveraged refinancings involving a variety of debt products (such as leveraged loans, 2nd lien loans, mezzanine loans and high yield bonds)
The role is transaction-oriented, multi-faceted, requires an inquisitive mind with a bias towards problem-solving and consists of three primary responsibilities: (i) management of the portfolio of loan commitments that Nomura has extended to its clients, (ii) active (monthly and quarterly) surveillance and monitoring of that loan portfolio and (iii) participation in the EMEA Capital Commitments process whereby Nomura determines whether to extend new loans and on what terms.
The role is a central one to decision-making and involves active collaboration between colleagues in Investment Banking, Capital Markets and Credit/Risk Management.
The candidate would participate in all aspects of portfolio management and capital commitments with particular focus on:
Portfolio surveillance and reporting
Cash flow & financial modelling
Detailed credit analysis and evaluation of business and quality of earnings due diligence data
Participation on calls with borrowers, sponsors and other lenders
Hands-on participation in the internal credit approval and capital commitment processes
Desired profile, qualifications and knowledge required
Ability to multi-task efficiently in a fast-paced environment
Strong communications skills – ability to interact confidently with banking professionals and clients
Team work – experience working in a project based environment with tight deadlines and as part of a broader team
Ability to understand companies’ business models and credit analysis in general
Strong analytical skills and numerical abilities, including familiarity with financial modelling
Experience in leveraged finance is preferred, but not a prerequisite. Candidates may have a background in credit research, corporate finance, credit risk management or they may come from the buyside and are already in a portfolio management role.
