Position description:


Responsibility is embedded in our culture, and we have a well-established ESG process. Our ESG Committee oversees our efforts and sets goals, while we distribute implementation of and accountability for our process across the firm. We are now hiring for a newly created role of Responsible Investment Director to elevate our ESG capabilities to the next level. This is an exciting remit to become part of our ESG leadership team and to work with many colleagues, clients, external stakeholders and third parties in our continual quest for best-in-class ESG strategy and processes.





· Stay up to date on trends and competitive landscape within responsible investing and sustainable finance, communicating key developments to ESG Committee and wider investment teams and introducing new fund-level and portfolio-level initiatives for evaluation

· Join ESG Committee, attend monthly meetings and oversee compiling of agenda and minutes

· Collaborate with ESG Committee to develop our climate strategy

· Anticipate, identify and assist in managing risks, and identifying opportunities, relating to new ESG investment strategies and activities

· Work with strategy heads, investment and execution teams to consider ESG-linked products for our strategies and asset classes

· Develop ideas to integrate new frameworks within our investment process such as sustainable development goals and climate change metrics

· Collaborate with the investment teams, business development team and IT to develop our key initiatives, including monitoring of ESG metrics, ESG reporting to our clients

· Identify and engage third party consultants and advisors as needed to help achieve Hayfin’s ESG and climate strategies and meet Hayfin’s reporting requirements


Investment process

· Attend ESG investment sub-committee meetings, evaluate proposed ESG-linked loan products/investment terms, oversee tracking of details and manage outstanding items

· Perform ESG monitoring of portfolio companies and evaluate key trends and risks to assist in setting strategy and investment processes

· Advise and support on ESG-related credit agreement provisions and maintain oversight of accepted sustainability and ESG-linked loan product terms to ensure consistent approach in documentation

· Work closely with different investment teams to refine and improve ESG processes (sponsor surveys for private equity sponsors, database for key ESG issues by industry, KPIs for our credit investments, engagement with owned assets)


· Engage with wider community and stakeholders on sustainability (conferences, etc) and developing a profile in the market to promote Hayfin’s ESG and sustainability credentials

· Assist BD and IR teams to enhance ESG within our corporate image, including updating ESG on our website and evaluating opportunities for proactive communication through social media and conferences

· Complete external reporting including PRI, UK Stewardship and Task Force for Climate Related Financial Disclosure (TCFD) to the highest standards

· Draft and review responses to ESG-related client and stakeholder questionnaires

· Oversee creation of ESG case studies for our investments

· Review and help IR and BD teams in updating our ESG process and marketing documentation on a periodic basis

· Draft our annual Responsible Investing client report and quarterly ESG reporting


· Collaborate on ESG with our partners (Alternative Credit Council) and evaluate further opportunities for partnership (PRI, UN Global Compact, etc)

· Conduct mandatory annual training for Hayfin’s investment and client facing teams and develop training programmes relevant to ESG matters

· Liaise with our legal team to assist with reviews and updates of our ESG and stewardship polices on a periodic basis

· Liaise with our legal team in relation to voluntary and mandatory disclosure and reporting requirements

· Oversee third party assurance/audit of Hayfin’s ESG processes

Qualifications / Requirements:

· Active interest in responsible investing

· Broad knowledge of ESG integration and understanding of key ESG issues and how they are relevant for investors across different asset classes

· Experience or strong understanding of investment processes and decision making criteria, preferably through several years of experience in the asset management industry

· Experience or strong understanding of a broad range of financing transactions and the key provisions of debt documents and how these differ across different ESG-linked and sustainability-linked loan products

· Understanding of key risk factors in relation to ESG integration and ESG-related investment strategies, including greenwashing and sustainability-washing

· Understanding of corporate strategies to address and mitigate corporate impact on climate change

· Team player with exceptional interpersonal skills

· Pro-active, confident, self-starter, results-oriented

· Strong research and analytical skills

· Strong communication skills including reporting writing, presentation preparation and delivery

· Highly organised, with experience of effectively managing multiple work streams spanning multiple stakeholders including dealing with senior stakeholders

· Ability to bring together a wide range of ideas and conversations within and outside the firm and act effectively as a ‘connecting agent’
